Scarves
Gloverall's scarves are made from lambswool — the fleece from a sheep's first shearing, which produces a fibre finer and softer than standard wool and significantly warmer for its weight. The collection divides between two distinct styles: the oversized woven scarves, made in Scotland from 100% lambswool in a range of tartan and solid colourways, and the knitted Fisherman Scarves, produced in England in a chunky rib stitch in the brand's core palette. Both are designed to complement the brand's coats, and both are made to the same standard of material and craft.
Oversized Lambswool Scarves
The Oversized Lambswool Scarves are woven in Scotland, measuring 35 x 215cm — generous enough to wear looped, draped or wrapped over the shoulders of a duffle coat. The tartan colourways — Royal Stewart, Dress Stewart Weathered and others — echo the tartan interiors used in the Freda and Long Slim Fit Freda Duffle Coats, making them natural companions. Solid colourways are also available for those who want warmth without pattern. Lambswool of this quality is naturally insulating and becomes softer with wear rather than stiffer; dry clean only to maintain the handle.
Fisherman Scarves
The knitted Fisherman Scarf is a simpler proposition — a chunky rib-stitch lambswool scarf knitted in England, available in Navy, Grey, Ecru and Maroon. It's the kind of scarf that works every day from October to March without being thought about, which is the point. The four colourways are chosen to complement the range rather than compete with it: Navy and Camel coats look right with Navy or Ecru; Grey, Black and Tartan coats work equally well with any of the four. Matching a scarf to a Gloverall coat is a question of whether you want the scarf to echo the coat or provide contrast — both are valid approaches.
Wearing Your Scarf with a Gloverall Coat
A duffle coat's pancake hood and throat tab are designed for cold weather, but a lambswool scarf worn underneath them adds meaningful warmth at the neck without bulk. The oversized woven scarves work particularly well with the Original Monty, whose generous proportions can accommodate a larger wrap; the Fisherman Scarf tucks cleanly under the throat tab of the Freda or Morris. For the full accessories range, including hats and bags that follow the same design logic, see Gifts & Accessories.
