Care & Repair
A Gloverall duffle coat is designed to last for decades — but the toggles and jute rope that fasten it are working parts, and working parts wear. The Care & Repair collection exists so that a frayed rope or a lost toggle is never a reason to retire a coat that still has years of wear left in it. Gloverall sells the same hardware used in its production — wooden toggles with jute rope, horn toggles with leather fastenings, and individual replacement buttons — so that the coat you already own can be maintained exactly as it was made.
Replacement Toggle Sets
Gloverall offers two toggle configurations, matching the two hardware options used across the coat range. The Unvarnished Wooden Toggle Set comes with jute rope and matches the hardware on the Original Monty and Classic Duffle Coat. The horn toggle set comes with leather fastenings and matches the hardware used on the Freda, Morris and other premium styles. Both are sold as complete sets of four — enough to replace all the fasteners on a standard duffle coat — and both can be fitted by any local alterations specialist without specialist tools. If you're unsure which toggle type your coat uses, check the coat label or contact the Gloverall team with your style code.
Extending the Life of Your Coat
Gloverall doesn't offer an in-house repair service, but the brand's position is straightforward: the coat should outlast the hardware, and the hardware is replaceable. Beyond toggles and rope, the most important maintenance steps for a wool duffle coat are regular brushing with a soft garment brush, prompt spot-cleaning of stains with a damp cloth and mild detergent, and dry cleaning rather than machine washing for more thorough cleans. For full care instructions specific to your coat, see the Monty Care Guide in the Gloverall Journal. For anyone looking to give a Gloverall coat a longer second life, the Renewed collection shows what becomes possible when surplus Gloverall materials are put in the hands of skilled British makers.
