Gloverall Renewed is an ongoing collaboration with independent UK makers. We supply surplus cloth, archive fabrics and original Gloverall trims - materials from deadstock and old lines that would otherwise go to waste. The makers use them to produce small, limited runs of new garments and accessories: upcycled coats, outerwear pieces and accessories that carry the character of the original Gloverall materials in completely new forms.
Every Renewed piece is made in the UK. Every run is limited. When it's gone, it's gone - that's the nature of working with surplus.
Upcycled British outerwear, not greenwashing
Plenty of "sustainable" lines are new products made from newly produced materials with a story attached. Renewed is different in a straightforward way: the cloth already exists. It was woven, dyed and finished for Gloverall lines, it was held, and rather than being written off, it's being cut into something worth wearing. No new fibre is grown or spun for a Renewed piece. No new dyeing. No new weaving. The making is new; the material is not.
The fabrics coming into the Renewed project include boiled wool, archive wool blends and surplus cotton from Gloverall's production history, along with original Gloverall trims. Some of it is cloth that was made for lines that never went ahead. Some is end-of-roll from Heritage Collection production. All of it is material with real quality to it - which is why it's worth making something from rather than moving on.
Who makes Gloverall Renewed?
Each Renewed collection is made by a different independent UK maker - small studios and craftspeople with their own design perspective and production approach. Gloverall supplies the materials; the maker brings the design. Past collaborators include Reworked 348, specialists in utility-led menswear made entirely from surplus, and Minnessak, who worked surplus Gloverall wool into a run of upcycled bags. The results vary by collaborator, which is the point.
Sustainable wool - the material case
Wool is a renewable fibre, and it biodegrades at the end of its life. It is also durable enough that a well-made wool garment is worn for decades rather than seasons - which is how Gloverall has always built its coats, from the Men's Original Monty Duffle Coat onwards, and why toggles, rope and buttons can be replaced through the Care & Repair range rather than the coat itself.
Using deadstock wool to make new garments extends that logic to the cloth: the material already exists, so a Renewed piece requires no new fibre, no new dyeing and no new weaving. Where every coat in the Heritage Collection is made in England, Renewed applies the same respect for material to the cloth those lines leave behind.
