Regular price £139.00

per

The classic Aran jumper originates from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. Traditionally hand-knitted from undyed, unscoured wool, these jumpers were first crafted by the island's fishermen to provide warmth and protection against the harsh Atlantic weather. Ours follows the same construction — a cable-knit wool sweater made to layer under a coat or wear on its own, in eight colours from ecru and navy to burnt orange.

Available in 8 colours: Army Green, Black, Burnt Orange, Ecru, Green, Grey, Mushroom, Navy.

The Aran jumper's cable patterns each carried a meaning for the island families who first knitted them: the cable stitch for the fisherman's ropes and a safe return, the diamond for prosperity. Patterns were distinct to families, a signature knitted into the garment.

Gloverall's Aran is knitted from 100% 5-gauge British merino wool, which keeps the traditional density and warmth while staying soft against the skin. Ribbed cuffs and hem give the classic snug finish, and the regular fit layers cleanly under a duffle coat or wears alone over a shirt.

It comes in eight colourways, from the traditional Ecru and Navy to Burnt Orange and Army Green, in sizes XS to XXL. Hand wash, dry flat, and it will serve for many winters.
