Gloverall Heritage
In 1951, Harold and Freda Morris saw something in a surplus military coat that most people overlooked: lasting value. Their company, Gloverall, took the utilitarian duffle coat — rough-hewn, functional, unrefined — and gave it considered detail, quality fabric, and a name that would come to mean something. The Heritage collection is where that original vision is most directly expressed: timeless pieces, made properly, with genuine roots in over 70 years of British craft.
What's in the Heritage Collection
The Heritage collection brings together Gloverall's most enduring silhouettes across men's and women's — the pieces that have earned their place in wardrobes not through trend cycles but through consistent quality and design that improves with age. For men, that means the Original Monty Duffle Coat, the Morris Duffle Coat, the Churchill Peacoat, and the Hynes Harris Tweed Overcoat. For women, the Original Monty, the Freda Duffle Coat, the Clementine Peacoat, and the Hepburn Overcoat.
A Heritage Worth Knowing
Gloverall's story includes Tony Brooks photographed in a Monty Duffle at the Monaco Grand Prix alongside Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn. It includes outfitting the British Winter Olympic Team for the 1980 Games and again for Torvill and Dean in 1984. It includes a visit from HRH Princess Anne to the Northamptonshire factory in 1985 — and another from HRH The Princess Royal in 2018. It includes collaborations with Vivienne Westwood, the V&A Museum, and export to Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and beyond from the 1960s onwards. The Heritage collection is not nostalgia; it is the current expression of everything that history has built.
Made to Last
Heritage at Gloverall means something specific. Harris Tweed® woven by hand in the Outer Hebrides. Italian wool blended for warmth and drape. 100% Melton wool for the Churchill Peacoat. British and European wool for the Monty and Morris. These are not materials chosen for cost — they are chosen because they produce coats that improve with wear and hold their shape across years of use. The Heritage collection is the right place to start if you are buying a Gloverall coat for the first time and want the piece that best represents what the brand stands for.
