Hats
Gloverall's hats collection is small by design — two distinct pieces, both made with the same materials and care as the outerwear range they're designed to complement. The Ribbed Merino Beanie is the everyday essential: 100% merino wool, clean ribbed construction, available in five colourways that map directly onto the brand's core coat palette. The Renewed Hulme Cap is something more specific — a limited-edition seven-panel cap handmade in Manchester from Gloverall's deadstock corduroy, with a story rooted in the city's underground music scene. Together they cover both ends of what headwear should do: keep you warm reliably, or say something about where you're from.
The Ribbed Merino Beanie
The Ribbed Merino Beanie is the most functional piece in the accessories range. Made from 100% merino wool — a fibre known for its softness against the skin, its ability to regulate temperature in both cold and mild conditions, and its natural resistance to odour — it's a beanie that works from October through March without becoming itchy or stiff. The ribbed construction allows the hat to stretch and return to shape, maintaining a consistent fit over time. The colourways — Navy, Black, Grey, Ecru and Burgundy — are chosen to work with any Gloverall coat: Navy and Black pair with the full outerwear range; Ecru sits well with Camel and natural tones; Burgundy echoes the tartan interiors of the Freda and Morris Duffle Coats. One size.
The Renewed Hulme Cap
The Renewed Hulme Cap has a more specific origin. It began with a photograph — a Richard Davis image of Anderson Hinds, known as 'Dangerous Hinds' of the Ruthless Rap Assassins, wearing a distinctive seven-panel cap in the Hulme area of Manchester. Hulme has been central to Manchester's underground music scene since the 1980s, fostering a creative community that stretched from the sharp lyricism of the Ruthless Rap Assassins through to the contemporary sounds of Children of Zeus. Naming a cap after that area felt like the right acknowledgement of a place with a genuine creative legacy. The cap itself is made from Gloverall's deadstock soft corduroy — fabric that would otherwise go unused — cut and assembled by hand in The Long Shot Exp's Manchester workshop. A soft, unstructured crown, gently curved peak, embroidered 'G' logo and slide adjuster complete the design. Available in Petrol Blue and Orange, one size.
Part of Gloverall Renewed
The Hulme Cap is made through the Gloverall Renewed initiative — a programme in which Gloverall supplies its surplus fabrics and technical expertise to independent UK makers, who turn those materials into limited-edition pieces. It shares its philosophy with the Renewed Tote Bag made from deadstock duffle coat wool, and the Renewed Works Button Jacket produced with Reworked 348: materials that would otherwise be discarded are instead given to skilled craftspeople who can turn them into something worth owning. The Hulme Cap is always a limited run — when the deadstock corduroy is gone, it's gone.
Wearing Gloverall Headwear with a Duffle Coat
The Ribbed Merino Beanie is the natural companion to the Original Monty Duffle Coat and women's duffle coats on days when the hood stays down. It sits comfortably under the pancake hood without adding bulk when the hood goes up. For the Hulme Cap, the structure of the peak works particularly well with shorter coats — the Marilla Dufflewool Liner Jacket or Greenwell Anorak — where the proportion is right for a more structured hat.
